Great News, We’re Launching!

Invest Where You Live

We’re launching a new initiative called the West Kootenay Boundary Investment Cooperative. This co-op is an investment tool that aims to direct new, or pre-existing, investment capital from local residents into local ventures with community impact.

We are seeking founding members and investors who are interested in helping grow our business community and who want to make an impact in the places they call home. We will be hosting an information session for the Trail area on Wednesday, Nov 28/18 from 6:00pm-7:30pm at the United Church, 1300 Pine Ave, Trail, BC V1R 4E7.

The WKB Investment Co-op consists of four sub-regions and their respective surrounding communities.  These sub-regions are: Grand Forks & Boundary; Lower Columbia; Nelson & Castlegar; and Slocan, Arrow and Upper Kootenay Lakes. Public launch sessions are being held in Nelson (Nov 27), Trail (Nov 28), Grand Forks (Nov 29), Castlegar (Dec 4), Silverton & Nakusp (Dec 5), and Kaslo (Dec 6).

A Quick Refresher…

Community Investment Co-ops (CICs) are a new and innovative support system for rural economic and business development that effectively bridge the gap between local investors and local ventures in need of financing. CICs are a cost effective, community owned and controlled impact fund.

They enable residents to become partners in locally driven economic development, which leads to stronger and more sustainable economies. In other words, your money won’t be in stocks and mutual funds, but more importantly in local projects and people.
